Overview
The options for network implementation grow from point-to-point Optiva links, to a vast array of architectures by using the Emcore OLX-1000, OLX-3000, and OLX-6000 optical matrix switches. These crossbar switches are managed, non-blocking, multipurpose, 16, 144, and 288 port crosspoint switches for digital signals at speeds up to 4.25 Gbps. Any of the 16, 144, or 288 outputs can be connected to any one of its 16, 144, or 288 inputs. The protocol or structure of data routed through the switch is transparent to the switch and is unaltered by its passage through the switch. As a result, these switches can be used with many different types of networks and signals. The crosspoint switch itself can operate from zero to 4.25 Gbps in each of its channels; however, the type of port card and transceiver may impose different limits on the range of data rates or the format they will pass. The input and output ports of the switch are implemented with SFP transceivers. As a result, links connected to the switch may be single mode or multi mode and may be of arbitrary wavelength. Signals are reclocked within the switch. Remote monitoring and control of the OLX series switches may be realized with the Emcore LinxView software interface.
