EMCORE Connects Cables Solutions

Scale out your high-performance computing cluster

EMCORE Connects Cables are high-performance optical cables with the performance needed to build large, reliable computer clusters:
  • High data rates: 40 and 56 Gbps bidirectional per cable, Infiniband® FDR, QDR, DDR, SDR, and 10GbE compatible
  • Long distances: Up to 100 meters
  • Low Bit Error Rate (BER): 10‾15
  • Low Latency: Signal conversion time is only
  • 550 picoseconds for the entire cable

Reduce installation and maintenance costs compared to 24 AWG copper cables

Scales don't lie: 84% less weight than copper cables

Fiber Cable Weight vs. Copper Cable

Ultra low-weight EMCORE Connects Cables put less stress on floors, racks, connectors, and pins. This can reduce the risk of weight-induced stress failures.

Better airflow: 87% less volume per cable1

Better airflow

The volume of 24 AWG copper Infiniband® cables is a huge problem for airflow. A single 10-meter cable has a volume of 649.4 cm3. In contrast, a 10-meter EMCORE Connects Cable volume is 87% less, only 85.5 cm3. Your cluster can breathe again, easing cooling problems and reducing hot spots.

Smaller bend radius: 70% less1

Fiber Cable Bend Radius vs. Copper Cable

The combination of the connector length and bend radius of EMCORE Connects Cables is shorter than the 24 AWG copper cables, and the optical cable is flexible, not stiff. These advantages make it easier to install, maintain, and repair cluster cabling without straining server connectors or affecting neighboring cables. It also makes it possible to close cabinet doors (where applicable) and achieve better airflow.

No electromagnetic interference (EMI) or unintended ground loops
Unintended ground loops and electromagnetic interference (EMI) can cause hard-to-diagnose intermittent failures in systems built with copper cables. Some EMI still does arise from the copper interface between the switch or HCA and the EMCORE Connects Cable, but this is no worse than copper cables.
