Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV)

Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) require small, lightweight navigation solutions. EMCORE SDN-500 INS/GPS inertial sensing systems provide exceptional bias stability, low Angle Random Walk values, and superior vibration performance characteristics, tightly coupling a digital quartz IMU and a Coarse/Acquisition (C/A) Code engine to deliver excellent operating performance. Our SDD-3000, QRS-116, SDG-1400, and SDG-500 quartz MEMS gyros complement systems with the same inherent characteristics, providing exceptionally small, highly reliable devices with long life. Our TAC-450 Series IMUs also support these applications, which will continue to grow with further proliferation of mini-ROV robotic platforms and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV).

QMEMS allow vehicles to detect and compensate for unintended rotations, tilts, and vibrations caused by turbulence or manipulator operations. This enables precise control of vehicle attitude and orientation, ensuring that RVs remain accurately aligned with targets.

FOG, on the other hand, offers higher accuracy, low drift and superior long-term stability compared to QMEMS. They are particularly important in high-end or mission-critical ROVs that require extended operations or precise positioning in GPS-denied environments. FOG-based IMUs provide stable orientation and heading information over long periods, allowing for accurate navigation.

Both QMEMS and FOGs enhance the ROV performance by enabling smooth, stable, and responsive navigation. They support autopilot functions, trajectory tracking, and sensor stabilization, which are crucial for navigation accuracy.
