MV-103 DIGITAL MAGNETIC COMPASS FOR NAVAL VESSELS

The MV-103 is a digital magnetic compass designed for naval vessels.

Authorized by the U.S. Navy as a replacement for magnetic card compasses on all of its ships, the MV-103 is ideal for amphibious craft, small boats, and naval vessels. With a fully automatic electronic compass sensor that calibrates itself, requires no maintenance, and delivers accuracy to within ±1º.

Highlights

  • Backlit LCD display for precise, easy-to-read heading information
  • Three separate components allow for flexible mounting options
  • Easy-to-read display, self-compensating sensor, and modular design
DESCRIPTION

A Digital Compass System designed to meet the magnetic directional requirements of amphibious craft, small boats, and naval vessels provides accurate, stable, and reliable heading information in both military and commercial maritime applications. Engineered for operation in complex magnetic environments, the system ensures dependable performance even under dynamic sea conditions and onboard electromagnetic interference.

The system consists of three primary components: a processor unit incorporating the compass sensor, an LCD display unit, and a junction box with integrated operator controls. The processor unit houses the precision magnetic sensing elements and advanced processing electronics. It is designed for installation in a magnetically stable location within the vessel, minimizing interference from onboard ferrous materials and electrical equipment. This strategic placement enhances heading accuracy and long-term stability.

The LCD display unit presents clear, real-time heading data and system status information to the operator. Designed for convenient mounting at navigation stations or control consoles, it ensures optimal visibility during piloting and maneuvering operations. The junction box provides intuitive operator controls for calibration, configuration, and system adjustments, allowing easy access while maintaining operational safety and efficiency.

A key feature of the system is its compatibility with the vessel’s degaussing system. During degaussing operations, intentional magnetic field alterations are introduced to reduce the vessel’s magnetic signature. These changes can distort traditional magnetic compass readings. The digital compass system compensates for these altered magnetic conditions through advanced correction algorithms and interface integration, maintaining accurate directional output even when degaussing mode is active.

With its modular architecture, flexible installation options, and robust correction capabilities, the Digital Compass System delivers precise heading information for navigation, steering control, and situational awareness. Its reliability, adaptability, and ease of integration make it well suited for amphibious platforms, patrol boats, naval ships, and a wide range of commercial maritime vessels operating in demanding environments.
