SDI-500 TACTICAL GRADE INERTIAL MEASUREMENT UNIT (IMU) (NON-ITAR)

Compact, Rugged Tactical Grade MEMS Inertial Measurement Unit

Leveraging industry’s leading MEMS technology to provide previously unheard-of capabilities in angle random walk values (0.02°/√hr.) without loss of tactical grade levels across military environments, including 1°/hr. bias stability, the SDI-500 is designed to achieve the demanding performance levels required in sophisticated systems applications. It is particularly suited for use by Integrators and OEMs, and is packaged in a highly miniaturized, cylindrical configuration with a volume of only 19 cubic inches. Boasting a 20-Year lifetime capability without requiring calibration and a MTBF of more than 100,000 hours, multiple output data formats and SDLC, RS232 and UART output interfaces are provided in this revolutionary IMU for optimized systems protocols.

DESCRIPTION

A Quartz Micro-Electro Mechanical System (QMEMS) tactical Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is designed for high-precision commercial, industrial, marine, and defense applications requiring exceptional accuracy, robustness, and long-term reliability. This IMU is the only QMEMS-based system demonstrated to achieve 1°/hour gyroscope bias stability, 1 mg accelerometer bias stability, and an ultra-low 0.02°/√hour Angle Random Walk (ARW) over wide operating temperature ranges. These performance levels place it firmly in the tactical-grade class, suitable for demanding mission-critical environments.

The IMU is built on proven QMEMS sensor technology that enables repeatable, high-volume precision production while maintaining consistent performance. It incorporates the latest generation of quartz gyroscopes and quartz accelerometers, leveraging the inherent large signal output, excellent thermal stability, and low aging characteristics of quartz materials. High-speed digital signal processing further enhances precision, linearity, and noise immunity, ensuring reliable inertial data under dynamic conditions, including shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures.

Packaged in a compact, hermetically sealed enclosure, the QMEMS IMU is engineered for durability and long service life. The solid-state design contains no wear-out components, supporting continuous operation with a reliable Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and a 20-year operating and storage life. This makes the IMU well suited for long-duration deployments where maintenance access is limited or unavailable.

To simplify system integration, the IMU includes continuous Built-In Test (BIT) for real-time health monitoring, configurable communications protocols, electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, and flexible input power compatibility. Advanced synchronization capabilities support four data message timing methods, including both input synchronization pulse and output Time of Validity (ToV). Users may select whether the synchronization pulse is internally generated and output as ToV, or whether the IMU software detects an external pulse and synchronizes output data accordingly.

Together, these features make the QMEMS tactical IMU a powerful, easy-to-integrate inertial solution for a wide range of advanced, higher-order integrated system applications.
